What's the same everywhere vs. what actually differs
The same everywhere
Regardless of provider, the underlying OSHA requirement is the same: formal instruction, then employer-provided hands-on training on the specific truck(s) and worksite, then a performance evaluation. No online course — ours included — can skip the employer's hands-on evaluation step. We can't vouch for exactly what every other provider's curriculum covers or how deep it goes; we haven't audited them. What we can guarantee is our own: this course is written by a state fire instructor and paralegal directly from the text of 29 CFR 1910.178(l), using current instructional design principles, not a secondhand summary of someone else's course.
What actually differs
Price (from $9.99 to $499), whether the content is genuinely forklift-specific or a relabeled generic safety course, whether renewals are free or a repeat paid purchase, and how carefully a provider's marketing distinguishes "built from OSHA's standard" from an implied-but-nonexistent "OSHA approval."
When to consider someone else
We'd rather tell you this directly than let you find out after paying:
- If you specifically need a bundled in-person hands-on evaluation included with the online course, Forklift Academy's hybrid model offers that combination; ours is online theory only, and the hands-on evaluation is the employer's responsibility to arrange.
- If your only priority is the absolute lowest possible price and you don't need the content to be forklift-specific, the $9.99 generic option (Global Training) is cheaper than us. We don't think that trade is a good one, which is exactly why we built this course, but it exists and it's honest to say so.
- If you're an employer buying a reusable in-house trainer kit rather than individual operator certificates, ForkliftCertification.com's B2B kit model is built for that use case; we sell direct-to-operator courses, not trainer kits.
Why we can charge $25
We're not subsidizing a loss leader. Low overhead is the whole explanation: no call center, no franchise or licensing fees, no affiliate network cut baked into the price. $25 covers the cost of running the course and still leaves room to maintain it properly — including keeping the sources-of-truth regulation text we build from up to date.
